The Nissan GT-R is one of the most iconic sports cars of its generation, and for good reason. It has always stood out from the competition with its performance and high potential. It has become a true legend in its segment, which is why its production lasted from 2009 to 2024 without major changes. In fact, if it weren't for increasingly strict emissions regulations, the current GT-R could have easily survived for another 10 or 15 years. The next generation will almost certainly be electric.
I don’t think Nissan fans really want an electric GT-R, and to be honest, I don’t think Nissan does either. New rumors about an electric supercar that could replace the GT-R have started circulating online in recent weeks.
A Supercar from Nissan?
If exotic cars used to be reserved for prestigious brands, that’s no longer the case today. The Ford GT is proof that a brand can carve out a significant place in the segment, and I won’t even mention the immense success of the Corvette since the arrival of the C8 generation. Honda also made a big impact with the NSX (sold under the Acura brand here) in some markets.
In short, this all suggests that other manufacturers would follow suit, and Nissan could be next in line. In fact, the Japanese manufacturer might replace the next-generation GT-R with a 1,300-horsepower electric supercar, according to current rumors. Of course, no official information has been released by Nissan yet.
In its final year of production, the GT-R was powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that produced 565 horsepower, still impressive numbers. However, we’re talking about an entirely different level with 1,300 horsepower. In my opinion, the Nissan GT-R, as we’ve known it for the past 15 years, remains one of the best sports cars in history. This means Nissan will have to offer something truly spectacular to make us forget about it.
